MSC containership damaged after scraping wharf in Turkey.
Reports are emerging of yet another boxship accident, reports Trade Winds. This time it’s the 19,200-TEU MSC Tina that has suffered damage after colliding with a wharf in Turkey’s Ambarli Port.
The ultra large container ship hit a pier while going alongside on Saturday night. Footage taken at the site shows a 70m strip torn off the vessel’s topsides, just above the loading line.
No injuries or pollution have been reported and the vessel has commenced unloading. According to Youtuber Deniz Haber Ajansi, a local captain was piloting the vessel when the accident happened.
Apparently the accident could have have been much worse, were it not for the timely intervention by one of the three tugs attending the vessel, which was able to stop the ship colliding with the pier’s cranes.
