Cargo vessel caught on camera as it drifts towards shores of the Bosporus.
Homeowners on the shores of the Bosporus were alarmed to see the River Elbe, a 89m-long general cargo ship, drifting towards their houses when it lost power in the Bosporus earlier today.
The 1991-built, Panama-flagged vessel was left completely helpless mid-channel when its engines failed while sailing south through the Bosporus en route from Novorossiysk, Russia to the UK.
The ship’s quick-thinking crew cast anchor, but the vessel still came within metres of the shore. Tugs attended the vessel, which was later able to complete the transit under tow.
