Cruise line says new CDC guidelines will mean it will take too long to prepare ships for sailing.
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd says its plans to re-start US cruises in July could be in jeopardy because new CDC Covid-safety protocols may take time to implement.
“Our team is working through the new guidance, but at first glance, however, it appears the path forward is a bit rockier and a bit steeper than originally expected,” Norwegian Cruise Chief Executive Officer Frank Del Rio said.
Analysts have estimated that it takes about 60 days to get a ship Covid-secure and Del Rio said, “We’re perplexed. We’re flabbergasted. We’re outraged,” in reference to the CDC’s treatment of the cruise industry.
Norwegian’s shares fell 5% after the company announced the lead time needed to cruise safely might push back the re-start date.
