A new Black Sea route is being opened between Poland and Ukraine.

Seatrade Maritime News reports about a novel ‘Black Sea to the Baltic’ route which is being established between Poland and Ukraine.
This will be a direct trade corridor between the biggest ports of these countries, viz. Gdansk and Odessa, respectively.
Commenting on the development, the President of the Port of Gdansk, Lukasz Greinke, said “We are not only talking about terminals located within the administrative boundaries of Ukrainian ports or the Port of Gdansk, but also land terminals located in the immediate hinterland of the ports and along the route of the Black Sea-Port Gdansk transport corridor.”
Accordingly, a weekly train service between the two ports is also being planned.
The two major objectives of this route, as asserted by Lukasz Greinke, include:
- Offering an alternative trade route to Western Europe for imports coming in from China.
- Providing an altogether new route to Turkish and Ukrainian companies looking to transport cargo to the Scandinavian region as well as to Western and Central Europe.
