Fred Olson says demand is high for re-launch of British Isles cruises from 17th May.

British Isles cruises are set to re-launch on the 17th May and carriers say demand is high, with two-thirds of places booked on Fred Olsen vessels.

Thomas Rennesland, the company’s hotel operations director, told the BBC that he has never been busier, but also that the last year has been stressful:

“Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to some really fantastic colleagues as the ships were not moving. Then of course we had to start planning the re-entry into service. No one has ever done anything like this before.”

Cruising in the UK will be phased and will start with domestic scenic tours starting and stopping at the same port, so-called “trips to nowhere out to sea”.

The first vessels will put to sea on 17th May from England, but other countries in the union may follow suit soon after.
