Fishing vessel, Barokah Jaya, collides with bulk carrier, Habco Pioneer, in the Java Sea.
A tragic loss of life has been reported from the Java Sea today by the Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency, BARSARNAS. The agency said the fishing vessel, Barokah Jaya, collided collided with the 30,000 tonnes bulk carrier, Habco Pioneer, at 0930UTC on Saturday.
The Barorokah Jaya capsized as a result of the collision and divers are searching for 17 crewmembers. 15 of the fishing vessel’s crew were pulled from the water and evacuated to safety by rescue services.
Yusuf Latif, spokesman for BASARNAS said “We’re still conducting the search”. Both of the vessels are Indonesian-flagged. There are no reports of casualties or missing crew on the Habco Pioneer, which is owned by the tugboats and barge company, PT Habco Primatama.
