Fire breaks out on huge cruise ship docked off the coast of Corfu.
A fire has broken out aboard the cruise ship, MSC Lirica, reports Greek news site, Kathimerini. The blaze started at around 3.30pm local time and was caught on video from the shore. Footage shows two lifeboats on fire and smoke billowing from the side of the vessel.
There were 51 crew members aboard when the fire started, but there are no reports of any injuries. Fortunately, the ship had no passengers aboard because of Covid regulations and had been laying idle in the port since January 30th.
The fire is believed to have broken out inside a lifeboat on deck six of the ship, a spokesman said. Fire crews were called and appeared to have the situation under control within an hour. The ship has been in warm lay up since March last year.
